LG Electronics of Seoul, Korea,
announced on October 11 that they will soon be releasing a
solar-powered e-book reader.
The first of its kind in the e-book
reader device market, it will sport a six-inch display based on an
LG-manufactured E-ink display. The solar panel, developed by LG,
weighs approximately 20 grams and is integrated directly into the
reader display.
According to an LG press release,
leaving the reader in bright sunlight for four to five hours will
provide a day's worth of charge time on the reader's battery. This will prove to be a boon for e-reader fans who can't always be near a power source.
Currently, the device is in the prototype stage. Pricing and a shipping date are not yet known.
